Public Health Ministry allocates 600 million baht budget for elderly health care

BANGKOK, 9 February 2016 (NNT) – Public Health Minister Piyasakon Sakolsattayatorn confirmed the government has realized that Thailand is embracing a society of elderly people whose health is to be taken care of.


Of a total of over 6.3 million elderly persons nationwide, about five millions or 79 percent lead an independent lifestyle and about 1.3 million or 21 percent need to be taken care of or provided some long-term medical care.

He added that the government has allocated an additional 600 million baht budget to the Office of the National Health Security (NHSO) with which health care for elderly patients will be provided in all the provinces throughout the country.
