PM orders inquiry official positions removed from police force

BANGKOK, 9 February 2016 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Police has stated that Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha’s decision to dissolve the position of inquiry officer was not an effort to reduce police power.

Royal Thai Police Spokesperson Pol Gen Dejnarong Suthicharnbancha has recently explained in a press conference that by removing this position, it will become easier for all current inquiry officers to get promoted. In the past, it was difficult for inquiry officers to receive a promotion, as their responsibilities were too specific.

More than 10,400 inquiry offices across the country will now be promoted to either sub-inspector or deputy commander positions following the Prime Minister’s order.

However, the Police Spokesperson said the Premier’s order will not have a retroactive effect on former inquiry officers who have recently been promoted. Pol Gen Dejnarong claimed that the move is the first step towards increasing the efficiency of police operations.

So what is an inquiry officer? Is that similar to internal affairs?

Never liked the idea of police investigating themselves, and especially not here.

I suppose a corresponding increase in the budget as promotion must mean higher salaries. Be good to know what an inquiry officer is.

Don't you know ? You just inquired :)

Why not? The army do it. All inquiries should be done by an independant body.

hard to tell exactly what is being promoted here. I might guess that ability to promote might be a carrot to get inspector off one's trail....

Job description of RTP Inquiry Officer: say repeatedly "huh???"

(I met one once, they are awesome at their job!)

They should share the workload:

- Army should investigate the police

- Police should investigate the army...

Ok, I know, I am a dreamer...

Would make some good fun reading some results on TVF though :)
