Mexico: Sikh actor barred from flying to US 'because of turban'

Featured Replies

The issue not whether he should have had his turban inspected. The issue is that the Mexican authorities did not realize or did not care that the turban and hair have a religious connotation and to the Sikh it was an insult. He could have been taken to a private room and searched. Instead he was humiliated out of ignorance or arrogance. The TSA in America and some police departments have also been ignorant and arrogant in the past. The Mexicans need a lesson in both culture and manners.

Bit like Thailand then.

What part of America? He was flying FROM Mexico...

I'm not even going to say it.

That would be the Mexican part of America then, the third largest country on the North American continent.

If the man refuses to take off or have his turband examined, officials have the right to not allow him on a flight. Simple as that.

And Mexico claims its citizens are Americans? Nope. Look at a Mexican passport. It says Estados Unidos Mexicanos. You can even see this simple and widely understood and accepted differentiation on the Thai immigration website, when you go to the pull down menu to do your online 90 day report. US citizens are referred to as "American" and Mexicans as "Mexican."

It wasn't Mexicans or Thais that referred to America. It was a poster that said "that part of Ummmerica".

Last time I checked, Mexico is part of America. Although they aren't part of the United States of America and no one refers to them as American, that isn't what the poster said.
