Several provinces affected by water shortages

BANGKOK, 10 February 2016 (NNT) - Many provinces across Thailand continue to suffer from water shortages, as relevant government units and provincial authorities work to restore water levels ahead of the dry season.

In Ratchaburi province, the Southern Royal Rainmaking Center is preparing cloud-seeding operations to help farmers affected by the drought this month. The Center's Director Prasob Promma said the total amount of water in the province's medium- and small-sized reservoirs is insufficient for distribution to farmland outside of the irrigation system.

In Sisaket province, a training program has been organized to help farmers affected by the drought crisis last year. Around 250 farmers have joined the program, which introduces them to useful technology and knowledge to help them increase their productivity.

Meanwhile in Nakhon Phathom province, an effort has been made to dredge water hyacinths and other water weeds in Tha Pha and Bangkaew canals to unclog the waterways for public use.

Is there still not a way to get rid of waterhyacynths? Those pesky plants grow like crazy.

Be careful what you wish for, with water hyacinths , they remove excess nutrients from water and have lowered heavy metals, they do act in water purification process and help keep the algae at bay,removal by chemicals will only end up in the water, a control of removal in balance with the location of them is needed ,total removal can have the opposite effect you wanted.

May be your right , i just know that some speicies are of more benefit than not having them , my thoughts are the area needs to be assesd by some one brighter and knowlegable than my self , a boffin type guru, before removal / control is implemented. good luck with it.

Water Hyacinths can be harvested, composted (composting temperature around 70 Deg C = pasteurization) and become a valuable fertilizer.
