eljeque Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Can I : 1. fly to KL/Singapore/PP and get a 60 day Tourist Visa 2. then extend it for 30 days in Thailand for 1900 baht at the end of those 60 + 30 = 90 days 3. Then fly to KL/Singapore/PP and get another 60 day Tourist Visa 4. then extend it for 30 days in Thailand for 1900 baht Is it only the border entry permits that are being stopped after (3 X 30) 90 days of stay in Thailand or is it also Tourist Visas from consulates or embassies that are being stopped as well?
lopburi3 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Consulates seem to be limiting tourist visa issue so only time will tell. If you obtain the visa it does not seem to be a problem using it.
cclub75 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Can I : The answer is : we don't know for sure. But if you follow the logic and official declarations, the aim is to prevent people to live in Thailand full time on "tourist" purposes. So it should mean visa exemptions (30 days stamps) and... regular tourist visas. Think about it : do you really believe that it's going to be as simple as : replace 30 days visa runs by 60 visas runs + 30 days extension ? If you think so, then you're probably optimistic.... On the other hand, as many people used to say, this is thailand. Rules could be changed, forgotten, etc. We need to wait end december/january, when people with 90 days of visa exemption will try to get a new one or to get a tourist visas, or people with tourist visa 60+30 extension will try to get a new one.
Maestro Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 3. Then fly to KL/Singapore/PP and get another 60 day Tourist Visa Regarding PP (Phnom Penh), you obviously have not read this post or this one. --------------- Maestro
tropo Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 The consulates in Malaysia and other neigboring countries are going to be mayhem in January. If anyone is in need of a tourist visa then, it may be a good idea to beat the rush and go in December instead.

cclub75 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Why have to wait until December / January ???? what will happened ???? The so called "new rules" regarding visas (visa exemption, and tourist visas, and other) have been implemented on 1 october 2006. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/2notice/newpro.html So, for the people who did "visa runs" (using visa exemption of 30 days, then go outside thailand, then go back for another 30 days etc.), the moment of truth will be approximately 1 january 2007 (when they will have already 3x30 days stamps on their passport). At that point, we have 2 possible scenarios : -the people who will try to get a fourth 30 days visa exemption (violating the new rule "90 days in, and then 90 days outside thailand", see the Thai Immigration link) (this scenario is not crazy. We can wonder : what Immigration officers at the borders will do if they have to deal with such people : expulsion ? Or last warning ? Or nothing at all ? It's the Big Mystery ) -and the people who think that after 3x30 days visa exemption, it will be possible to get a regular tourist visa (60 days). Those people will go to thai embassies in Laos, Singapore, Maylasia, to try to apply for this kind visa. So end of december, begining january we will have -at last- solid informations, based on real feedbacks, regarding the "Great Thai Visa Shakeup". And we will able to make our mind about all this visa circus...
Maestro Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Why have to wait until December / January ???? what will happened ???? Think! Think hard! Can you see it now? 90 days will have passed since 1 October. Some people will have been in Thailand for a total of 90 days since 1 October 2006 and if any of them tries to enter Thailand once more without a visa he will see what happens. And hopefully he will report his experience in this forum. Get the picture? --------------- Maestro
aaechan Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 (edited) So.....please advise me... after Tourist visa (90 days) ends, can i renew more 90 days of tourist visa ? , or i have no way at all,, must stayout Thailand 90 days then come back again ?? isn't ? please advise.... Maestro Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 So.....please advise me... after Tourist visa (90 days) ends, can i renew more 90 days of tourist visa ? , or i have no way at all,, must stayout Thailand 90 days then come back again ?? isn't ?. You are free to go to any Thai consulate anywhere in the world and apply for a new tourist visa and see if the consulate will issue it. If you are a genuine tourist, using the visa for tourist purposes, you probably apply at a consulate in you home country and should have no difficulty obtaining it. If you apply at a consulate in the region and the history of Thai stamps in your passport shows that you have been living in Thailand continuously for a long time on the basis of visa-exempt entries and/or tourist visas, chances are that you may be refused a new tourist visa, or they you may get it with a stern warning not to go back to that same consulate in future for a new visa. This is based on factual reports in this forum over the past few weeks, which you may or may not have seen, for example here and here. --------------- Maestro
llothar Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 So end of december, begining january we will have -at last- solid informations, based on real feedbacks, regarding the "Great Thai Visa Shakeup". Yes, maybe. I'm not the bravest man in thailand, so i will go next sunday to Kualar Lumpur and try to get a (hopefully double entry) tourist via now, so i can read the threads in january more relaxed. I don't believe that the authorities have a strategy now that is supported by all immigration officiers. So they will see too what happens in january. We are living in interesting times here, raised my posting count in forums around 500% from the beginning of the coup.
johnrh Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 (edited) Hello, Not sure if this is the most obvious thread for this but I'd like to post it somewhere! Just received this pdf doc from a friend in the UK. It sets out very well what's needed for a Tourist Visa or Visa on Entry, for tourists. I hope someone finds it interesting & useful. BTW, for those in the UK, my friend recommends using the Consulate in Hull. Avoid Liverpool! Post-edit: Just tested this but clicking the attachment didn't open it! Perhaps one of the experts knows how to do this.thai_visa_changes.pdf 2nd edit: Have uploaded doc again and now seems ok. Edited October 24, 2006 by johnrh
llothar Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 There is absolutely nothing new in your attachment there. But this sentence "There are no plans to change the procedures relating to Tourist Visas or Non-Immigrant Visas." is just bullshit. It is correct from the law point but this doesn't matter. Because all embassies and consulates in Asia change there internal rules for tourist visas and even in Germany it is getting more difficult to get a 3-entry tourist visa. So it is just a lie.

I didn't claim there was anything new, but it's a good summary. Obviously you know more about the subject than the Thai Consulate in Hull, since you say they are lying. What may be happening (or said to be happening) in other places has no bearing on it. Perhaps your opinion would be more credible if it carried the official crest.

I'd prefer KL as I have a friend there that I could visit so I'm quite curious as to how this will go for you. Good luck! Edited October 24, 2006 by Naut.Sirius

Lin Neumann, Senior Editor, Asia Sentinel //Lopburi We're definitely better off without your stories. There is nothing new in that article and it offers a subjective opinion put forward as fact. It's just too early to pre-empt the final outcome of these new visa regulations. Being linked to this site gives you free advertising. Do you have any idea of how many people read this forum? News scraper sites like drudgereport.com or newshub.com do this all the time and its not illegal at all. big deal. This makes me laugh because Asia steals so much intellectual property, software, copyright etc. Billions and billions each month stolen from the western countries and then they draw the line here.
