Prime Minister welcomes Russian envoy

BANGKOK, 12 February 2016 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha today welcomed the Director of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, HE Mr Nikolai Patrushev on his visit to strengthen bilateral relations in preparation for Gen Pryaut’s visit to Russia, for the upcoming ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in May of this year.

Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office Maj Gen Weerachon Sukondhapatipak, disclosed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had extended the invitation to Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of relations between Russia and ASEAN.

The Prime Minister also assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan and Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak to accompany him during his visit to the Russian Federation to further discuss security and economic cooperation.

Gen Prayuth has expressed his support for conducting joint counter-terrorism and international crime suppression efforts with the Russian Federation. Other issues of cooperation include human and drug trafficking suppression and cybersecurity.
