The rains will come and the grass and weeds will be growing. Have seen some good push mowers, but my lot is large and I am wondering about a ride-on. Saw a couple near the bus station but didn't care for them and they were outrageously expensive. Anybody know where else I might find a good riding mower? Anybody with a second-hand one feel free to PM me.

amazing the price of even a regular non riding lawnmower here....i bought a honda push mower with grass basket several years ago and paid i think about 12 000 baht ....walk into lowes or home depot in usa and choose from a dozen models at 1/3 that price....i assume thailand must have some high duty to keep them so expensive.

lawnmowers and decent BBQ gas grills are in my opinion are ridiculously overpriced in thailand....

and funny thing when i hire local workers to cut my yard they refuse to use the lawnmower and prefer to use a weed whacker....

Our neighbor was eager to learn how to use the lawnmower and was a quick study. He was a little embarrassed when the farang had come to his rescue a couple of times but likes using it now. Of course there is still a lot which requires the use of a weed whacker.

I don’t want to deprive our neighbors of a little extra pocket money so I prefer to higher someone to do the yard.

Yeah, we get a guy with a weed wacker who does the whole yard in about half a day.

I wouldn't bother buying a mower for what he charges.

Part of my exercise routine these days and I really generally enjoy mowing the yard...reminds me of being 13 y.o. when i had 5 old ladies in neighbor hood who paid me to cut their grass...some of them had really big yards and i of course would try and cut the yard as fast as possible often running to push the mower faster...then about that time the old lady (seemed old to me then anyway) would come out and point out all the trimming that she wanted done around trees etc ...the mowing was the easy part...the trimming i didn't like...

But when you're a kid with no money you do what you need to do.....

But for sure cheaper and easy to just hire a thai to bring on the weed whackers....

I grew up in the US midwest and mowing your own lawn is part of the culture. Besides, if I do it myself it will be done the way I want it done. It's also good exercise. Have been using the weed wacker and now the neighbor is cutting his grass/weeds. I'm hoping to start a movement in the neighborhood!

But as somebody said, the prices here are high compared to walking into a Lowes in the US. Push mowers available for about 12,000 and self-drive ones for 22,000. Maybe I'll go for the middle way and get a self-driver. I just can't bring myself to spend 100,000 on a mower.

I think that most "big" country people grew up pushing a lawnmower, most of the houses I lived in from childhood up were on quarter acre blocks which the boys were responsible for mowing.

I'll agree it's good exercise and the mindlessness of it offers ample opportunity to think of more important things.

Where I grew up in Southern USA a yard wasn't a yard unless it was an acre or more...and of course it had to have a lot of trees and flower beds and rocks and all kinds of stuff that the mower couldn't get close enough to so you then had to get on your hands and knees to use those damn hand held clippers which were sort of like a pair of scissors to snip the weeds....., usually with some widow standing there pointing out all the places you might have missed....all for a dollar or two which you were delighted to get. Wouldn't trade those days for all the smart phones and video games that seem to occupy kids today.

Global House stocks a very capable MTD ride on mower, made in USA and shipped here via a German supplier - 99,000 plus 19,000 for the catcher/collector apparatus that sits on the back/side. It's a large beast of machine, not for the feint of heart, 500cc 6 speed!

Husky machines are available via the internet out of Chiang Rai, nice but expensive, circa 250k as I recall.
