PHUKET: The Port Authority and Royal Thai Navy are investigating two Thai tuna fishing vessels suspected to be in violation of the kingdom's new illegal, unreported and unregistered (IUU) fishing regulations.

The vessels – Yu Long 6 and Yu Long 125 – were apprehended somewhere outside of Thai territorial waters, in the Indian Ocean, yesterday before being escorted back to Phuket for processing.

Thank you Royal Thai Navy. It's a surprise seeing them in international waters to investigate Thai registered ships.

Although the name Yu Long may have Chinese origins so these ships might have a proxy owner.

PHUKET: -- Two Thai fishing vessels arrived at Phuket Deep Sea Port yesterday, after being seized under suspicion of illegal, unreported, unregulated (IUU) fishing and escorted back by the Royal Thai Navy.

“The two boats were captured at about 9pm on Saturday night, about 96 nautical miles south of Phuket. Both had failed to report at Phuket’s Port in-Port out Control Center when they departed,” confirmed Vice Admiral Sayan Prasongsamrej, commander of the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command.

The vessels, Yu Long 6 and Yu Long 125, were returning from tuna fishing in the Indian Ocean and had a crew of 15 people each. They were piloted by Taiwanese captains Hsia Chien Jen, 50, and Chen Tai Shan, 52, respectively. Most of the crew members were Indonesian and Singaporean, confirmed V/Adm Sayan.
