BANGKOK, 19 February 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health has initiated proactive work to care for the nation’s elderly.

Minister of Public Health Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn called a meeting to discuss development of the care for the elderly with a focus on those dependent on primary care facilities administrated by sub-district offices.

He announced that care for the elderly would be given under the concept “together for the elderly, understanding, accessible and dependable”.

The minister reminded that Thailand is becoming an aging society as by the year 2025 the Kingdom is expected to have 14.4 million senior citizens, necessitating that his ministry develop long term measures to assist the nation’s elderly.

He affirmed health care for the segment would be proactive, with caretakers traveling to the homes of senior citizens to provide primary care.

With an aim to train 10 caretakers for each sub-district, the ministry is currently training 5,000 individuals and is encouraging family members of the elderly to receive training to care for their elders.

The measure of a good or bad society is how it treats it's elderly. And it's poor, animals etc.

And just how, with the economy in decline and nearly 90 per cent working families heavily in debt, do they propose to pay for the cost of nearly a quarter of the population being elderly within the next 10-15 years?

Pass the smoke and mirrors, please.

I hear the local Tiger population is increasing. Nice, fat and happy tiggers. "Hey, where's grandpa?"

"Maybe it's time to get grandma and grandpa for a 'walk in the woods'. 'Eh?
