Latest Expierence on Marriage at Bangrak, Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I read a lot of stuff, but in the end as we are in Thailand a lot changes and is not written down.

I want to marry next month in Bangrak (lets please not discuss the topic if marriage is wise...)

If there are some German People who married there the last months I would be very happy to hear expierences if this still applies : http://www.thai-uebersetzen.de/en/heiraten-im-standesamt-bangrak.html

Here are my questions:

  • Witness ... do they need to be a member of the family or can they be two friends? Expierences?
  • Do you need a second Apostille - supplementary certification - autehtification from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs or not? I get a Konsularbescheingiung from my Embassy in Thai and ENglish.
  • Any other required documents? (sure passports from both and all the documents from my future wife )
  • How early should you go to Bangrak? When they open?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I don't know what some of the words that you have used, mean but anyway........

You need an affirmation to marry which you get from your Embassy by giving them proof that you are single (divorce certificates or death certificates or whatever you need in your case)

Then this affirmation needs to be translated into Thai and stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Any Amphur will then accept this and together with your passport and her Id card will marry you.

( I don't think you need to have your passport translated, I can't remember having mine done but I am sure someone else will add this if need be)

Literally anybody is accepted as witnesses and the Amphur opens at 08-00 but you can go anytime during the day, but I don't know if one day is busier than another.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi Happzlarry thanks for your reply. I think you got some good points but it is a bit different:

1. The Embassy (German) gives you already a affirmation to marry in Thai and English so there is no need to translate it anymore. The question is only that there is a debate if you need the stamp by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or not ! There are several people saying BangRak and only BangRak doesnt need that. All others in the country need that stamp 100%, but people say BangRak doesnt need that stamp.

2. Thanks for the Opening hours, I read a lot that it is wise to be very early there as they dont accept more than 10 or so per day.

3. Thanks for the Witness Hint, but when did you go there? In October 2015 was a recent change on the requirements on BangRak Amphur and the question is if it is still so easy and if they still accept anyone as Witness and if you need a certified Translator or not.

Anyone else some recent experiences? Thanks :)

Called them today you dont need the stamp by the Ministry of Affairs as the German Embassy already give u a Thai Paper.

But they told me you need a family member as witness? Anyone experience with that?
