PHUKET: -- Milo, the female orangutan at the center of a wildlife furore, is recovering in the Phang Nga Wildlife Nursery Station after being rescued late on Saturday.

Wildlife activist Edwin Wiek said yesterday that Milo was ‘a bit weak, but in good spirits’ after being dumped in the jungle while still in a cage.

More than 12,000 people signed a petition organized by Change.org calling for ‘Help for Milo’. Mr Wiek, from the Wildlife Friends Foundation of Thailand (WFFT), said his group would pay for Milo to live at a national parks facility in Ratcha Buri and is expected to be shifted there shortly.

it could be if thais would actually protest irl..

regroup as many thais as the dumb cycling and marathon events bring (maybe a cash incentive?) and the governement will have no choice.

but the only protest we ever see here is from taxi bragads

Phuket Zoo has the same owner as Phuket Birdpark and Phuket Botanic Garden. No chance of a closure whatsoever.

Still any kind of pressure exerted on the Zoo will not harm and might even do some good.

Not true and they would be mortified do be accused of being associated with that zoo.

The owners of the zoo live opposite in that ugly mansion.

The Botanical gardens/birdpark owners live within the gardens property.

I was told so. I do hope you're correct, thanks.

Never been to the dump call the Phuket Zoo, and never will go. Lots of thuggish looking degenerates hanging around every time I've driven past.

Yes and they are just a few of the low- life feeding from the trough.

Tuktuks and taxis earn good commission for dropping punters at the zoo. They might have more of a say than disgruntled farangs, unfortunately,

A hand raised Orangutan can not survive in the wild unless it has been trained by knowledge d trainers for this release.

apparently this orangutan would have needed to be trained by houdini if it was to survive
