V/Gov Chokdee Amornwat speaks at Tuesday's (Feb 23) committee meeting.

PHUKET: -- The Phuket Land Office on Tuesday (Feb 23) confirmed that only 27 of 715 plots of land within Sirinath National Park are legally owned following a lengthy investigation.

The announcement came at a meeting held by Vice Governor Chokdee Amornwat together with a special committee set up by Phuket Governor to investigate land titles issued for for plots of land within the national park.

The committee comprised of V/Gov Chokdee; Phuket Land Office Chief, Watcharin Jetanawanich; Suchart Kongchum of the Phuket Forest Department; Phuket Natural Resources and Environment Chief, Kasem Sukwaree and other officials.

V/Gov Chokdee said, “There are 715 plots of land within the Sirinath National Park boundary, but there are no issues with some of these plots.

“The Land Office officials made investigations into the 715 plots and have found that only 27 are legal. However, there is still an area of 70 square kilometres where further investigation is required. So far, there are 97 plots where officials can go ahead with legal proceedings,” he said.

“The whole country knows about the problem of land rights within Sirinath National Park. Some plots do have illegal land documents, some have legal land documents, while others have none.

A decade will slip by and we will still see no conclusion.

A decade will slip by and we will still see no conclusion.

More like a decade a score and we will see no conclusion.

So what exactly are the authorities going to do about this is the real question. I think it's been shown and talked about for many years how there have been illegally issued deeds.

Every crook and criminal in Thailand knows that in this country the wheels of justice turn very slow

and at times, don't turn at all stuck in the mud of concealments cover ups and bureaucracy....

and so they take the chance knowing that get away with many crimes and misdeeds for long,

long time, and when they're finally discovered, it will take years more to bring it to lawful conclusion...

Spot- on.

So what department was responsible for issuing the illegal titles. Maybe the investigation should start in their own office.

The Land Department - we all know that. Over the years many officials have been under investigation, many have 'ran' away. But when many many millions of baht can be made in short order ... what do you expect with officials making small salaries.
