After weeks of demonstrations in support of a Palestinian journalist on hunger strike in Israel, an agreement appears to have been reached on his case.

It’s reported Mohammed al-Qiq, who was detained by Israel in November, has agreed to end a three-month hunger strike.

The journalist has been held without charge, accused by Israel of being a member of the Islamist group Hamas.

The EU, UN and rights groups had expressed concern over the case.

Details about the agreement are not yet known, but its’ reported Qiq is being treated in a hospital in the north of the country.

He’d been held in what is known as “administrative” detention, in which someone can be held without charge for long periods.

It’s reported he will remain in hospital to recover and will then be released in late May.

Then charge him, if it's a crime.

All in good time. Terrorism is definitely a crime and many countries can hold them without charges.

You mean like the 420 detained indefinitely without charge that Israel currently holds in its jails.
Yes many countries hold people without charges, and Israel is one of them. QED. Nothing to be proud of.

Yes but funnily enough it`s only the Israel threads you comment about.Your agenda is so transparent it`s embarrassing.

I suggest you search the archives for all my posts.
My agenda is indeed transparent: I am never embarrassed to criticize bullies.
Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.
Perhaps you should address the OP, rather than me.

I've seen them all. You rarely criticize any country other than Israel about anything (except the USA for supporting them).

Back to the OP...

Arrested without charge; released without charge, while exposing Israeli torture and inhumane imprisonment.
[Mohammed al-Qiq...OP detainee] "initially went on hunger strike in late November to protest the torture and ill-treatment he said he faced in Israeli custody, but his protest quickly developed into another bid to challenge Israel's use of administrative detention -- internment without trial or charge."
Mohammed al-Qiq has achieved his objective, and Israel has shot itself in the foot again, creating millions of words of negative PR for itself on social and international media.
Israel should try something different from brute force to lessen tensions and achieve peace with its neighbors. The present method isn't working

The U.K. Interned suspected members of the IRA. I suspect we will see internment again in Europe pending the jailing or deporting of Islamist terrorist sympathizers.

Off topic deflection again.

As I said above... imprisonment without charge or trial is nothing to be proud of, whichever country is doing it. You lose any high moral ground. And besides, ultimately it doesn't work. You just create martyrs.

Just emphasizing how you are obsessed with holding Israel to a higher moral standard than anyone else. Internment may be logistically cheaper than keeping hundreds of suspects under surveillance. There have been several cases of suspected terrorists supposedly under surveillance who still manage to commit mass murder, France sticks out in particular in this respect.

Not sure Israel cares much about the supposed propaganda value of martyrs seeing as Israel demonizers make things up out of thin air anyway. Though the Palestinian authority are no doubt relieved, they must be running out of squares and parks to name after dead terrorists.

Thread full, sorry...

Israel is savable. I am one of the best friends Israel could have by criticizing its faults. I yearn for the day when Israel joins the family of modern civilized European democracies. People who try to sweep the OP inhumane treatment of prisoners under the carpet are ultimately doing Israel a disservice.

The best security and future Israel could have is an internationally recognized just peace with its neighbors...the only kind worth having.
