Moved to the pet forum. Unfortunately none of the airline here allow pets in the cabin. Thai airways used to, but no more.

If you have a car you will be driving down then that actually is best. Otherwise, as cargo on Thai Airways - supposedly they take reasonable precautions with pets in the cargo hold, definitely wouldn't trust any of the other airlines on that score.

Many years ago I moved two dogs and a cat from Hat Yai up to Mae Hong Son by train and bus.

Cat carriers are allowed in the sleeping compartments of trains so I'd suggest that route. The downside of this is the wait after CM-BKK, the earliest BKK to NST train is late afternoon I think and it's not a sleeper.
