Interior Ministry joins Tourism and Sports Ministry to address tourism business issues

BANGKOK, 3 March 2016 (NNT) Interior Minister Gen. Anupong Paochinda, Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanawarangrura and relevant agencies, today attended a meeting on tourism related problems, including the problem of travel agencies which use Thai nationals as nominees.

The Director of the Tourism Business and Guide Registration Office, Sutham Detdee said that 245 travel agencies have been inspected since 29th July 2015 by the Department of Tourism.

Twenty-two of them are suspected of using nominees at popular destinations in Thailand such as Pattaya, Samui, Phuket and Chiang Mai. Six of the twenty-two travel agencies have now been confirmed as using nominees.

The department has forwarded the cases to the Department of Special Investigation and to the Revenue Department for retroactive audits.

As for measures to ensure the security of tourists, the department is working with the Royal Thai Police in imposing 10 measures to tackle problems such as gangster activity and organized crime.

A special committee is also to be set up to deal with particularly cheap trips for incoming Chinese tourists in an effort to increase the standards of tourism in Thailand.

Tell them to take a walk down Pattaya's Walking Street if they want to see flagrant abuse of the visa and work permit system by Russians brazenly working as whores, dancers, door girls,waitresses and leafletters. This in full view of police, tourist police and city officials sitting at their tables watching the world drift by.

Then try to work out why that might be....
