I have been in Thailand for 2+ year and my non imm/BOI visa will no longer be valid on the date I retire and leave my company (30th April), as this was not planned I have gone for a retirement visa while I organised my pensions, (I have a obtained a proof of funds for the visa).

Looking ahead if I go for a 12 month visa my pension payment lump sum will always be too close to the visa renewal, meaning I will always have to keep 400KTHB in my accont, so I was wondering if I could.

  1. Extend the visa from April based on retirement for 3 months?
  2. Then extend the visa based on marriage for 12 months?

This will ensure I always the lump sum is paid into my account 4 months before the visa is due and therefore I won’t need to be concerned about keeping enough money all year.

Can I do this? And what will the attitude of the immigration be like toward the visa length?

Kind regards

I do not fully understand your post.

At the moment do you have a multiple entry non 'B' visa OR a 1 year extension of stay based on working?

  1. The extension of stay would be granted for a full 12 months. There would be no need for you to change during the 12 months.
  2. Most offices will let you choose/change the reason for the extension of stay each year when you go to renew.

After you stop work note that .......

  • If you want a 1 extension of stay based on retirement you need 800k baht in your bank for at least 2, maybe 3 months OR a certified (by your embassy) income of 65k pm OR a combination of the two.
  • An extension of stay based on marriage requires 400k for 2 months OR a certified income of 40k pm.

How you proceed will depend on what you currently have and the office you are applying at.

I'm on my third extension of stay on a non-immi multi visa, it runs out Aug 2016, but because it was obtained by my company under a BOI scheme it will no longer be valid when I leave my job the end of April.

My question is twofold.

1. Can the extension of stay based on retirement be for 3 months? My preferred choice

2. After the three months can I make an extension of stay based on marriage at that point for 12 months?

With kind regards

1. The extension can only issued for one year.

2. You could get a 60 day extension to visit your wife and then apply for the one year extension based upon marriage.

If the lump sum pension payment can be broke down to a monthly amount that is equal to or greater than 40k baht you can use that to get the extension and you would not have to wait for the lump sum payment every year.

Let me see if this is right.

I can apply for a 60 day extension for the non-immi B extension that runs out end of April, and then apply for the marriage extension at the end of the 60 day extension by which time my funds will be in the bank for more than 2 months and this will mean my annual renewal will always be end of June?

Many thanks biggrin.png

Does that mean I will need a second 60 day extension while the marriage visa is being processed?

No. When you apply for the extension based on marriage the office will put the application under consideration for 30 days and give you permission to stay during this time. At the end of 30 days you return to the office and they will stamp your passport with a 1 year extension of stay.
