When extending a tourist visa is it possible to do it anywhere? Do they ask for proof of accommodation or anything like that? Im asking because last time i went to Samut Prakarn the wanted a receipt for my hotel.

You can apply at any immigration office if you have local address to put on the application form. They can ask for proof of that address.

Hi Ubonjoe,

#1) Does the address have to be local to that immigration office? ie) in the same province? Or does any address suffice in Thailand?

#2) I live at my thai girlfriend's house. How do I get proof of this? Is she supposed to go to the police and register me or something similar?

Thanks

1. You need an address for the province where the immigration office is located or within the designated area it serves.

2. You would need proof of her address and s statement you are staying with her. Some offices will want a TM30 form from her reporting your pretense.

According to Thailand's archaic laws, every time you stay overnight anywhere the hotel owner/householder has to report your presence and (while not enforced) you are technically supposed to report your own presence also. When staying in hotels, your presence should have been reported and this is the address you use. They may ask for proof that you are staying there. If staying in private homes or some cheap hotels, the report will often not have been made and there can be a problem. IMHO these rules are crazy.

But if on a tourist visa one does not have an address.. traveling around right?

  • You use the address of the hotel/guesthouse or wherever you are staying, but you can only apply to the immigration office that cover the area of the address you are staying at.
  • If you are staying in a hotel in Bangkok, and go on a day trip to Udon Thani, you cannot apply for the extension in Udon using the Bangkok address.
