BANGKOK: -- The Civil Court on Tuesday ordered the confiscation of 25-million baht worth of assets of former commissioner of Central Investigation Bureau after he failed to show to the court about how he legally acquired the assets.

The court said that the ex-commissioner, Pol Lt-Gen Pongpat Chayaphan, earned about one million baht a year from his salaries but managed to own 1,014 items of valuables worth about 25 million baht.

Pol Lt-Gen Pongpat also did not challenge the police contention that his assets were ill-gotten wealth.

Earlier, he was sentenced to 36 years and three months on several charges ranging from money laundering, bribery, receiving stolen properties to illegal possession of artifacts and operating illegal gambling dens.

I Wouldn't be too sure about that, given who he and his family have upset (and who they will possibly have a lot of dirt on). I am frankly surprised he has made it this far...
