Second Visa run to Savanakkanet.

Featured Replies

I have just done my second visa run for my one year multi-entry O visa based on marriage to Savanakkanet, everything simple and easy as the last time.

However, I must warn anyone going there, I had a 45 min wait in a big queue at the bridge to get stamped out, if I had been 5 mins later, I would have

had to wait a lot longer as the queue behind me got even bigger, very few Farangs here this time, unlike the last, probably due to changes in the visa rules.

While waiting at the bus station in Savanakkanet, I met a Russian guy, who told me he was too late to hand in his passport etc, so he now has to spend two

nights in Savanakkanet, I did not get the full story from him as my bus then pulled in.

Maybe it was a one off that day, but I would advise anyone going to Savanakkanet, to get the earliest bus from Mukdahan as possible in order to get to the Thai

Consulate before 11am.

I said on another thread that you should show no politeness to others when doing the crossings or you will miss getting back on the bus and either have to wait an hour for another one going to Mukdahan or be forced to use a tuk tuk going into Savannakhet.

Sit as near to the front of the bus as possible, failing that then stand near to the front ready to be one of the first off, gently nudge anybody smaller (most Asians) out of your way, have all your paperwork filled in ready and coming back to Mukdahan, buy your bus ticket and get on the bus at Savannakhet bus station, its a ten minute walk from the consulate so no need to use a tuk tuk which if you do then you still have to wait for the bus and purchase a ticket at the border.
