Gov satisfied with human trafficking eradication effort

BANGKOK, 9 March 2016 (NNT) – The government has indicated satisfaction with the work of its officials to stem human trafficking and is preparing to submit a second report on the matter to the United States in April.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has chaired a meeting of the Human Trafficking Prevention and Eradication Commission, which was also attended by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Ministry of Justice and various security agencies.

Gen Prawit used the opportunity to laud the achievements of relevant agents in dealing with human trafficking, noting that their work has been concrete and has shown clear progress. He bid all officials continue to adhere to the law in dealing with the issue as the government prepares to submit a second report on its human trafficking situation to the United States in April after its first report was handed in last year.

He especially encouraged agents to prosecute any state officials found to be involved in the illicit activity and to ensure human trafficking is eradicated from Thailand. He assured that the state would assist those impacted by human trafficking in line with the principles of human rights.

Good luck with that...might want to let the UN recognised refugees out of prison first mind.

Is that right?

Whatever happened to your lead investigator who had to flee Thailand for his life?

"A senior Thai policeman who headed an investigation into human trafficking for the country's military government,

has fled Thailand in fear of his life and is now requesting political asylum in Australia."

"Major General Paween claims his investigation was stopped by highly influential people within the government, the military and the police."

"He said high-ranking government officials repeatedly obstructed the investigation."

"He was brought in as a hard-nosed, experienced investigator — someone who has a reputation for being forthright in being incorruptible," he said.

"And what he found was so explosive that he feels it is no longer safe for him to remain in Thailand." wai2.gif

Here's my take:

- There must be many ways to go about human trafficking and more will be invented, forever.

- So will they, in the future, just revisit the known methods of trafficking or do they have well trained officers who are highly capable to quickly sus out new ways / new operators in this disgusting activity?

I am personally satisfied with my efforts to be monogamous, but that doesn't mean I won't sleep with any hot girl that smiles at me.

Maybe the Thai Government should ask what the rest of the world has to say about their efforts to eradicate human trafficking and stop patting themselves on the back.

I congradulate the military for removing human trafficking in Thailand from the public eye. Surely it's operating more covertly now.

On another note, whatever happened to prosecution of the three mid-level and one high-level (identified as a "ringleader") military officers who worked in ISOC for involvement in human trafficking? These four were arrested by the military in early 2015. Maybe Prayut will grant them amnesty as a conviction would damage the reputation of the military.........oh, and of Thailand.

Well if they say so it must be. facepalm.gif

Pretend, pretend...it is the same way Thai enterprises claim to be green because they heard it is good for business, without knowing come here from sick-um about the responsibilities such claims comprise.

The dangers in such a proclamation is that it's designed to place ""Thai xenophobic "" position from a judgemental Junta , against any international viewpoint that might rule they are still worthy of the current tier 3 rating ( the lowest for human rights abuses)

It's deliberate ( the statement)

It's designed to ""pressure the assessors "" into concessions and a lighter approach.

Sanctions would close Thailand up further as it already recedes into a China style rule.

The reports will be scathing if the international society implement sanctions on the Thai side.

The public will be force fed the governments line.

And a poll will show 99.9 % of citizens are angry at the EU ( or United States )

Then as night follows day consequences will flow in those nationalities .

Be it visas or what have you.

Hopefully the Thais have done enough to at least avoid sanctions and the expats there will not be targeted by the government in some red tape retribution

"Well, there it is...done at last!" <sounds of dusting hands off>.

I'm sure it follows the 6 phases of project management:

  1. Enthusiasm,
  2. Disillusionment,
  3. Panic and hysteria,
  4. Hunt for the guilty,
  5. Punishment of the innocent, and
  6. Reward for the uninvolved. clap2.gif

this whole affair is unbelievable - a sad inditement of the government's attitude to others.....

The "show trial" that is now commencing is nothing more than that.....it just gently caresses the tip of an iceberg....I guess though that these "people of influence" are people aligned to the authorities?
