KRABI:-- Officials in Ao Nang have introduced a new safe swimming zone on Railay beach.

The safe swimming zone stretches 150 metres from the shore and has been put in place to help protect swimmers from getting into accidents with small boats and jet skis.

Unveiling the new safety zone, which cost 70,000 Baht and has been paid for by a donation local business owners, Hat Nopparat Thara National Park director Mr. Sarayuth Tanthien said the safe swimming zone was provided in response to an increase in swimmers being injured by jet skis.

Mr Sarayuth revealed that a similar safe swimming zone setup on Koh Phi Phi has seen the number of accidents involving swimmers and boats be greatly reduced.

He also added that anyone who does not adhere to the new safe swimming zone - both swimmers and jet ski operators - can expect to be punished.

There are no jet skis at Railay or any other beach in Krabi! Rubbish reporting as usual.
