Anybody using this service for movies & streaming TV? Any feedback on choice and quality? Most important, do they stream, surround? 5.1? Thank you FLIX? MS>

Kodi RC 16.1, or any other kodi for that matter, is just an empty media player.

Without the knowledge how and which addons to install he not gonna be pleased, since without those addons it is only usable to stream from your pc .

Then it is time you get your settings correct or change your android box to a decent one, because that is the issue, not your internet connection.

Don't blame other factors for your own mistakes.

6 Mb down is plenty for Full HD with 5.1 sound.

I've had ilikeHD basic sport package and basic uk tv package for 2 months now, very happy with it and NEVER ONCE gone off line. It's cheap and works well.

Then it is time you get your settings correct or change your android box to a decent one, because that is the issue, not your internet connection.

Don't blame other factors for your own mistakes.

6 Mb down is plenty for Full HD with 5.1 sound.

First of all Mr "Cruncher" please less of the attitude no need for it! This is a forum for people who need help because they don't understand or need to put something right we are not all IT wiz-kids.

OK I'm taking your points on board, so my settings or my android box is wrong are you willing to offer me some nice useful advise or should I just stop here . . . . ?

Hoping it's the later then here's my set up as far as the Android box & Internet goes

Minix Neo U1 android box ( see photo attached)

Running latest firmware & latest version of Kodi

Internet 3BB fiber 35mbs up, 3.5mbs down

Android box connected via Ethernet cable

Any useful advice would be much appreciated as I have tried everything over the last couple of years

Before the U1, and currently in my bedrooms I use the Neo X8- H plus, before that the Neo X8 and so on. Anyway in my line of work I travel a lot and always take a box with me so I have a little bit of experience on how these boxes work away from Thailand, and how to set them up.

I'm currently doing some work out Tbilisi in the Republic of Georgia, and there I have a Neo X8- H plus which works perfectly with 5.1 sources on KODI. The same box with exactly the same settings here in Thailand does not work very well. With 5.1 sources It goes into buffer immediately, if I leave it for a while and then come back to it that's OK, but sometimes you just don't want to wait!

This morning I had the internet Engineers over, they put my speed up to 200mbs down and 50mbs up and that made no difference at all. So you are right as far as internet speeds go!

Now you are one of the only persons that I know, who can stream 5.1 sources effectively, that's why I am so interested. Why pay for 35mbs down if 10mbs works its obviously a waste of money on my behalf, and every penny counts right!

A closing point for you if you haven't used it "Release Hub APK" (Entertainment Repo) used in conjunction with a RealDebird" account for everything in 5.1 1080p & 4k. If you connection is that good you cant afford to miss it!

What I however don't understand is that you say you're currently in Georgia and then that the internet engineers in Thailand came down and increased your speed to 200Mb.

I never heard of 200Mb speeds in Thailand, and I actually wonder how you can be in Georgia and Thailand on the same day.

The audio signal is only a very small part of the used bandwidth when you're streaming a movie, as the picture is a much bigger part.

As you'll see below, even a huge video file with 3D and 1080p resolution and Dolby Digital Plus audio requires less than 10 Mbps.

I said I work in Georgia, not that I am there now. Have a look at the attached photo, this was the minimum speed that 3BB tested my connection with Kodi, using the Exodus Apk streaming criminal minds in 720p 5.1. Even at this speed the stream played for 2 mins then froze like before and started buffering, to achieve the 100% buffer then took about 20 mins not acceptable.

Pass through is not an issue. It's not that I'm not receiving 5.1 I am no problem but it's the video signal that freezes with a 5.1 stream. FYI I am running the Android box in a 13/2 home cinema system with the Denon AVR1200WA powering the system, the sound configuration is spot on.

With those speeds there are no doubts that the issue doesn't lay with your internet speed, in fact in the first 2 minutes your movie should already be in your cache for the biggest part.

Have you done a ping test already? A few months ago I would experience package loss of up to 20% on my connection, so while I got test speeds of 10Mb it wasn't even possible to play live radio. I posted a thread with screenshots about it on the forum.

Otherwise it must have to do with your settings somewhere. Maybe with your cache settings, I hope you don't use the Zero cache setting, as that is the worst of them, but in fact all advanced settings cache settings are useless.

I had 150Mb cache in my advanced settings on my Minix X8 H plus and I had to remove the XML file as it gave me issues with buffering and subtitles not loading.

Now I don't have any advanced setting anymore and also no buffer. Before I would get pop ups that the buffer was full, so I think using an advanced settings xml actually limits your cache buffer.

Keep in mind, a lot of "magic" solutions on the kodi related forums do actually more harm than good.

Thanks! Yes agreed definitely not due to internet speed! At least now I know that for sure thanks to the Engineers actually showing me with my download speed at 175 mbs. See there's my limited understanding I always thought that streaming quality was based on internet speed alone!

Now you mention ping test & package loss, here again it starts to go into uncharted waters as my understanding from here on-wards is very limited. I know speed test measures the ping time in ms but that's about it, where would I find the package loss information . . . My ping test to Bangkok is 6-7ms, to UK 270 ms, US west coast 275 ms . . . . ?

As for the cache settings I never mess with them, so no advanced settings

To stop type ctrl c

It will show how many packages you lost

On further thoughts, if there was something wrong with your internet connection, it would also not let you play HD streams with normal sound.

Please tell where I can find Criminal Minds on Exodus with 5.1 stream.

I can find it in both 1080p and 720p, but the audio streams are AAC 2.0 and no choice to change audio stream Both sources are Sezonlukdizi/gvideo and are playing perfectly.

I noticed when I first installed my Minix that enabling stereo upmix in the Kodi settings would give me trouble.

I don't have real debrid and also not gonna pay for it, as my 2 channel AAC streams are converted to 5.1 by my amplifier. I know it's only simulating but it sounds like real 5.1 or 6.1 when I select CS II or Neo 6

And it seems that Real Debrid actually may be your problem. I have no other explanation for your problems, because a 5.1 stream really doesn't take that much bandwidth. When I get a 5.1 stream, which is very rare, it plays without issue on my 10mb connection

Got 30 day account and am mostly disappointed. 1080 and 720 sources in genesis and icefilms buffer especially with 5.1 audio. Much more working links in Genesis and icefilms is useful again but pretty much just sd.

The top quality streams from rapidgator oboom, etc. All buffer and barely get above 0% . Seems to be 95% of streams with Dolby digital 5.1 are unwatchable for me. Not sure if it something to do with my android tv box or what but it makes RD useless to me.

@StinkyPete…you say, “RD streams are more stable (if still available) and offer 5.1 DD or DTS surround audio track.” First of all, the “if still available” is the operative phrase here, as very rarely do they have the best HD both showing up on the list and actually available to stream. Secondly, I have found few streams with 5.1 DD from RD…mostly 2 channel only. I have RD, but I would guess that I end up streaming only 1 in 3 films or episodes from RD b/c I find better streams that are NOT RD. That really shouldn’t be, and I’ve heard lots of excuses for them (like, well, it’s the scrapers’ fault). On top of that, I get the feeling that RD doesn’t give a crap about the quality of the experience Kodi users might have with RD, meaning they have little desire to improve it. Whatever, I’ve subscribed for a 6 month trial, but won’t be surprised at the end of that time if I don’t re-up.

Edit : By the way, could you try to disable hardware acceleration, all 3 of them in Kodi>settings>video>acceleration and see if that makes a difference?

It definitely makes adifference with live streams, so maybe also with the real debrid streams.

Yes of-course our receivers will convert to basic Dolby/NEO surround, but its not the same in a dedicated high end home cinema set up! An RD account wouldn't break the bank I think its about £15 a year, and right now they seem to have pulled their fingers out and its working surprisingly good ( FYI I experience the same issues RD links or not, so RD is not the issue, like I mentioned before it only happens in Thailand, same box in Tbilisi, Georgia and even in Kabul, Afghanistan works better than here with 5.1 sources)

Ive now ventured into some advanced settings and disabled the hardware acceleration. This worked surprisingly well last night but today I haven't had a chance to follow it it up!

But why do I need to change the settings here in Thailand, whats different here . . . . .
