Cuba v Tampa Bay Rays baseball for presidents

HAVANA: -- The Latinoamericano Stadium in Havana, buzzed in anticipation as the Cuban national baseball team welcomed the MLB side the Tampa Bay Rays.

Two presidents were also on hand, President Barack Obama and President Raul Castro.

It gave both men the opportunity to see something tangible from their recent cordiality, a sporting occasion which Cubans and Americans could enjoy together.

A minutes silence for the victims of the Brussels attacks was observed.

The match marked Obama’s last day in Cuba, the first US president to visit the island in 88-years.

A day when the out going president said he had come to “bury the last remnant of the Cold War in the Americas.”

The 4-1 victory for Tampa is hardly worth mentioning.

USA's great leader, watches baseball as Brussels burns. Trump is right again !

I liked that rhetorical flourish of "as Brussels burns." Good touch! Kind of like Nero?

It was obviously important for the trip that the two leaders enjoyed together a game that both countries share a passion for.

So, what should have Obama done? Yes, it's a big event but the USA was not invaded.

I don't always agree with Obama, but I sometimes think that some of his critics will spin any event to find cause to criticize him.

Obama was there on a historic visit.
Islamic Jihad (under different brand names) is at war with civilization and they had another "victory" in Brussels.

Not the first.

Not the last.

So every American president is supposed to drop everything and fly to Washington or Europe every time there is a lost battle in this war that will likely be with us for a very long time?

Get real.

Attacks on Obama about this are purely election season noise.

Congrats to the Tampa Bay (really St. Petersburg) Rays!

But where was Fidel?

There's been a rumor going around these past 50 years that Fidel came to the US and tried out for the major leagues in the 1950s. Consider how that would have impacted history...

I don't expect the president to cancel everything and return to the White House, but the optics of him cheering and having a good time at a baseball game are not good.

At least the Rays won!
