Gen Udomdej vows to go ahead with park project

BANGKOK: -- Deputy defence minister Gen Udomdej Sitabutr today announced to go ahead with the Rajabhakti park in Hua Hin with plan to build learning and exhibition centre at the park after the project was delayed.

Announcement of the former Army chief’s determination to build history learning centre came after the Centre for National Anti-Corruption (CNAC) ruled out corruption in the park construction at yesterday’s press conference.

Gen Udomdej said the park construction was six months behind schedule and now it has to go ahead.

He said construction now will be for history learning and for exhibiting work and sacrifices of the seven Thai Kings.

Commenting on yesterday’s ruling of the park controversy, Gen Udomdej said he never acknowledged “commission” was paid by the foundries to an amulet trader regarding the casting of the bronze statutes of the kings, and donations to the park committee.

But he said he was ready to cooperate if the case is to be reinvestigated by the National Anti Corruption Commission.

Yesterday the CNAC spent over two hours to reveal its finding of the case at the press briefing chaired by Justice Minister Gen Phaiboon Khumchaya.

The case centred on an amulet trader who allegedly demanded kickbacks from foundries hired to cast the statues of the kings at the park.

The press briefing was attended by Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) secretary-general Prayong Preeyajit, Auditor-General Pisit Leelavachiropas, and National Anti-Corruption Commission deputy secretary-general Yongyut Malithong.

Redshirt leader Jatuporn Prompan and Pheu Thai party’s legal advisor Ruengkrai Leekitwatana were also present as observers.

Close! It is actually Hugo Boss.

He also produced the Nazi uniforms.

Well, I guess if you're a clothing manufacturer, you manufacture clothing. I expect he was producing school uniforms and maybe bus drivers' uniforms and maybe street sweepers' uniforms at the same time. Oh, and suits. According to Wikipedia, the company produced the black uniforms adopted by the SS, the brown shirts worn by the SA, and the uniforms worn by Hitler Jugend. If you have a company that produces military uniforms, among other things, and you have a chance for a huge government contract that will be extremely profitable, do you pass it up?

Day after the white wash. Full steam ahead!

Imagine the uproar if a Shinawatra government investigated itself for corruption and came out clean...

Ah yes......but Thaksin ..........

Good thing we have been saved from that evil man by these noble, honorable heroes in green.

Trip advisor reviews of Ratchapak Park. Seems that a vistors and learning center would be welcomed by those tourists who have visited the park so far. Many foreigners would like more information on the seven Thai King's.

To quote Gregory from Switzerland " Nice statues, but I would have been nice to have some informations about these Kings."

Seigbert from Germany says the same " The 7 Kings in the Rajabhakti Park are only some km away from Hua Hin

near Suan Son Beach.

You can take the small red bus for 20 ThaiBaht to the Park.

From the mainroad it is only a short walk to the statues.

It is very impressive to see the 7 Kings, but you get no further Information."

So as you can see the visitors and learning center is much needed to help the tourism of Hua Hin.

Which kings are there out of interest? Rama V for sure and who else? I am guessing Ramkangheng and Taksin.

1. King Ramkhamhaeng (Sukhothai period)

2. King Naresuan (Ayutthaya period)

3. King Narai (Ayutthaya period)

4. King Taksin (Thonburi period)

5. King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke (Rama I and founder of Chakri dynasty – Rattanakosin period)

6. King Mongkut (Rama IV of Rattanakosin period)

7. King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V of Rattanakosin period)

There is some very interesting history there that I won't discuss and I wonder how they will convey certain things in their learning center...

Well, we'll have to wait and see, still it's a step in the right direction.

Probably by shifting around uncomfortably and pretending not to understand the question. That is what has always happened to me whenever I have asked about it.
