Hi all,

I just got a multientry re-entry permit for my Non-Immigrant O visa.

This is my first time on this visa and it is valid thru 30 May as I entered the country on 2 March.

I know I can extend the visa through a 90-day checkin on 30 May. However I'm wondering if the extension applies to my re-entry permit as well.

I thought I had read that the multiple re-entry permits were valid for one year; just realized mine is stamped as valid through 30 May and I'm hoping I didn't make a big mistake by paying the extra 2,800 baht for the exits I'm hoping to make after May.

Anyone experienced this before?

A re-entry permit is only valid for the length of the permit to stay it is issued for, They cannot be extended. The one year you read about would be for a one year extension or a visa entry that was valid for a year.

You spent an extra 2800 baht for nothing unless you leave and re-enter the country several times before your re-entry permit expires.

You have highlighted one of the important reasons to distinguish between visa and extension of permission to stay. You received a reentry permit for your permission to stay. If you receive a new permission to stay (through an extension or a new entry into Thailand) the reentry permit is no longer valid.

Your post confuses me in another respect, and I hope you are not misconstruing something else. There are three ways to interpret your post

  1. You have a multiple entry Non Imm O visa. In that case, you need to leave the country every 90 days, but no reentry permits are needed.
  2. You have a one-year extension of stay, and are confusing the date of your 90-day address reporting with the expiry of your permission to stay. What does the reentry permit give as its expiry date?
  3. You entered Thailand on a single entry Non Imm O visa, and believe this can be extended easily at the end of 90 days. To get an extension (generally for a year) you need valid grounds and you need to satisfy the conditions.

Well, that's a huge bummer. Thanks for the info

Do you have a SINGLE or MULTIPLE entry non immigrant visa? With more information you can be better advised. Although it would appear you have defiantly overpaid unless you are making several trips before May 30th.

Yes BRIT TIM is actually mentioning somehting that most of you guys out there should be MUCH more careful with....

using the correct words and terms for the things you like to talk about...

So extension of stay is not a VISA..... OK

Thanks BRIT TIM, maybe you have helped some people at least by your post..

When you apply for your 12 month extension of stay you can obtain a reentry permit. You can do that on same day at imm or you can obtain one at airport. Don't leave Los without a reentry permit otherwise your permission of stay is over.

I entered on a single-entry Non-Imm O visa and will have valid grounds to stay & get an extension for a year when the visa expires 30/05/16.

I now understand that I probably should have gotten a single entry reentry permit this time, and then applied for multiple entry once I got an extension of stay.
