In 2015, police led operations to suppress 463 drug crimes in Phnom Penh, an increase of 255 from the previous year, according to a monthly report issued on March 30 by the Phnom Penh police.

A total of 1,260 people were arrested in connection to drug crimes, the report said, among them 132 women, 25 foreigners and 1,235 Cambodian nationals. A total of 701 fewer people were arrested in connection to drug crimes in March 2014.

Among the 463 cases sent to court, 310 were cases of drug dealing, while 153 involved drug use.

The report added that the total weight of confiscated drugs was 192 kg – of which 189 kg were methamphetamine. Forty scales, five pistols, seven samurai swords and a variety of tools were also confiscated in connection with drug crimes last year.
