Deliberately misleading 'free offers' from AIS?

Featured Replies

Be suspicious of anything AIS offers you for free. I've almost been taken in twice - so it's probably par for the course.

I got an SMS saying "3G Free Internet 100MB 2 days has been activated" - which led me to believe I was getting a connection speed of 100MB for two days - which seemed a little too good to be true.

Day 1 was covered by another package.

On Day 2, before connecting I checked my balance. I connected, then checked my balance again - in seconds I had used 8 Bt - clearly a trivial sum, but had I not been vigilant my balance would have been drained very quickly.

I disconnected immediately and called AIS to complain (at my expense of course!)

They informed me that the 100MB referred to volume not speed, and because I had already used up 100MB the service was NOT free on day two - furthermore they weren't even willing to refund the small amount of money I had lost.

On another separate occasion I got a message in Thai offering another 'free service' - all I had to do was click on a link to an automatic Call Centre number.

I called them to ask for details only to find that the service wasn't free - the free part was the connection to the Call Centre. The operative agreed that the message was, in fact, terribly misleading and that he would flag the problem. Nevertheless, I continued to get similarly worded offers.

They're not misleading you - it's hardly their fault if you don't understand the terminology.

And please not another 100 Mbit/s thread.

"Deliberately misleading 'free offers' from AIS?" – Nope, just you not understanding.

The free offer meant:

You can now use for free 100 Megabyte of data at "3G speed" (which can vary) for max. 2 days whatever expires first.

Will not last long if you watch videos or the like.

*121*3#

will show package status.

Not quite the same but AIS also. I got a sms from AIS saying my number would be terminated and to call and get new phone. I went to AIS shop to see why. Thay said my phone was G2 without even looking at my phone and offer for free phone was finished and I need to buy new phone. I went home and did the *545# call and it said I was G3. So now I am wondering will I get terminated or were all the AIS people just lieing to me so to sell a phone?

without even looking at my phone

That's not quite what is called customer service.

Didn't look at your phone?

Did they ask for your phone number and type it into their terminal?

Which AIS service center was that?

All that I know: if it says "AIS 3G..." then you are OK (already moved to the 3G network).

I got yesterday an SMS from AIS:

3G Free Internet 500MB 2 Days has been activated.

I got this message right after i topped-up 500 Baht. The 500MB got added to my current internet package. Even i don't need this extra 500MB, i don't see any issues with it.
