The Tourism Ministry has asked the government to allow Russians to get visas on arrival to boost tourism and business, just weeks after the country’s deputy prime minister Arkady Dvorkovich met Prime Minister Hun Sen on the sidelines of the Mekong-Langcang leaders meeting in China.

During that meeting, the pair also discussed direct flights between the two countries.

Tourism Minister Thong Khon told a meeting between officials and industry executives on Monday that with a population of 156 million people Russia was a lucrative market.

“We are want to exempt the Russian tourists from applying for a visa in order to attract more Russian guests to the Kingdom,” Mr. Khon said said

He said about 31 million Russians vacationed outside their country every year. About 55,000 Russians visited Cambodia last year, compared with 108,000 in 2014 and 131,000 in 2013.
