Prime Minister Hun Sen hosted a dinner on Monday evening for over 3,400 athletes and coaches from across the Cambodian sporting spectrum in a glitzy event at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The event fulfilled a promise the Prime Minister made in February this year, after the Cambodian All-Star XI football side defeated Thai heavyweights SCG Muangthong United and Buriram United at the National Olympic Stadium.

“I don’t want to talk about the technical issues, but the athlete’s spirit to never give up. It’s not about being a big or small or rich or poor country, but most importantly it is about being able to stand and compete with other nations on an equal footing,” the Cambodian premier said, himself an avid golfer and keen football fan.

He urged the Kingdom’s sportsmen and women to continue their progress and work hard towards a successful future. Cambodia will be hosting the 2023 SEA Games, for which hopes are high at the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia.

“There is no politics in sports. Pride and honor through achievement is what Cambodia needs,” concluded the Prime Minister.
