More than 20 Cambodian migrants who had been working at two pig farms in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province have been given work permits and allowed to remain in the country after they were found to have been working without proper documents. The move followed intervention from Cambodian officials, according the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The 24 workers had been detained by Thai authorities at the end of last month because they did not have work permits, but after a request from Cambodian officials permits were issued and they were allowed to return to work, according to a statement from the Foreign Affairs Ministry yesterday.

The 24 workers, four of who were female, had entered Thailand on border passes that allow them to remain in the country for only one week, ministry spokesman Chum Sounry said.
