The owner of a hair salon in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined 20 million riel ($5,000) for possessing more than 100 grams of crystal meth, according to officials.

Phnom Penh Municipal Court Presiding Judge Kor Vandy said the Mour village business owner, 21-year-old Than Pisey, was charged with drug possession under article 40 of the Law on Drug Control. “The court sentenced her to 10 years in prison,” Judge Vandy said, adding that Ms. Pisey has the right to appeal the court’s decision within 30 days.

Ms. Pisey was arrested by anti-drug police during a raid of her shop on May 31, 2015. Police seized 104.41 grams of crystal meth as well as a number of crystal meth tablets weighing 1.94 grams, Judge Vandy said. Two drug scales as well as other paraphernalia were also seized from the salon. Ms. Pisey said the court’s verdict was unjust and she planned to appeal it, adding she is not guilty.
