An unidentified foreign man stands with a police officer Wednesday morning at Chiang Mai police station.

Police must have found the bare, wet, male chest very sexy. Photo: Sanook

CHIANG MAI: -- Just so you know, Thai police regard nipples of all genders equally obscene.

A young foreign man was arrested in the middle of a water fight in Chiang Mai province today on a charge of obscenity after police saw him walking around shirtless.

The man, whose identity was not disclosed, was charged with public obscenity “by exposing himself to the public,” according to traffic officer Pol. Col. Piyapan Pattarapongsin.

Was this photo taken before or after the fine was paid ?

If after and the offender allowed leave still ' topless ' the BIB are condoning the offence and the publicity seeker on the right should, at least, be reprimanded.

However he's likely to be rewarded by the PM for upholding traditional Thai values by dealing with serious a serious case.

Well, if the police feel Jimmy's bare chest is obscene enough to warrant a fine, why have they 1) not covered him up to avoid offending onlookers and 2) allowed an "obscene" photo to be taken, published and distributed via the internet.

Shouldn't the RTP themselves now be charged with promoting obscenity and distribution of lewd material under the Computer Crimes Act.

The law should work both ways.

clap2.gif Spot On !

Price should come to our village as many of the Thai guys wander around bare chested.

Well, yeah. Wasting your time for 100B?

What panic there must be now if a cop gets close to the beach.

Cover your teets boys, here comes the fuzz.

It addition to breaking the law themselves, this is nothing short of police harrassment. Why don't the police go stop real criminals: drunk drivers, marauding youths on motorcycles brandishing weapons, drug dealers, and the list goes on.

Strange there has been no crackdown on the "night spots." Oh wait!!! Most are owned and/or controlled by certain members society and of course promote traditional Thai culture and values.

Pathetic hypocrites.

I fail to see how a 100 baht fine is a deterrent.

Maybe if it were 100,000 baht people may take it more seriously.

I remember reading that men would only be fined if they were "muscular" @500 baht... maybe why jimmy only fined 100? ... but really this is madness... No this is THAILAND... (recalling scene from movie "300")

By the looks of him his holiday budget for the week just went to the police. :) That's why he looks so worried.

He should have worn pasties like any respectable bargirl! biggrin.png

This is a major step in the right direction. Now if Thailand's finest would turn their attention to the open-sandal problem, the country would be well on the road to a thorough reversion to Buddhist standards.

In short, there are too many middle-aged farangs wandering around the provinces in open-toed sandals - with many of them displaying naked big toes for all to see!

The correct attire, as every sartorially-educated foreigner knows full well, is a pair of business socks - black or dark grey, it matters not - worn between the foot and the footwear, to cover the offending protuberances.

A modest fine of, say, 25,000 Baht in the first instance would soon stamp out this gross offence to Thai sensibilities.

Let me see if I've got this right. The guy is charged with being "obscene" by merit of not wearing a shirt. Certainly, for any normal-thinking cops, priority would be given to cladding such an offensive sight as quickly as possible, but instead, they choose to give the press a photo op and actually become responsible for spreading this "obscene and offensive" image nationwide. After many years here, I still can't really get my head around Thai logic.

he was fined $2.84 . I wonder if they would allow him to pay it over several monthly installments tongue.png

Yeah! Well I guess it must go by weight then. But the last time I stepped on a Thai Weight Scale at the Doctors Office I bent there needle, so there must be a maximum fine for guys like me. But then if it went to court I would probably win also as I can't find a bra or swim suit top in Thailand to cover my nipples that could come anywhere close to fitting me. .

Back to the Middle Ages.

Soon, our ladies will be squabbling on the sale table for half priced veils and black gowns.

Freedom lasted about a century. Now my shirtless body is porn.

We need a time machine to take us back to Woodstock days...(ok..that was near my hometown, and not thailand). However, women's breasts were ok in public prior to 1940's. Now...75 years later, a man's chest is obscene.

Note how the second pic had even the back of his hand blurred?

He didnt even have "man boobs" from too much chicken (like me) so his supposedly offending "Na Ok" were incongruously not blurred.

One conclusion; nothing to show, but his face may have been very ugly. tongue.png

Remember the song, was it; --- "Nice body shame about the face"? That will do.

Other conclusions have been posted and more will come. Watch these spaces.rolleyes.gif

for example;-

This was a police warning and example to ladies who do have something beautiful to show.

So what would their fines be. Proportionately more? rolleyes.gif Just thinking.

My landlord is a BIB...yesterday, he and his whole family were on the back of his pickup driving around my village topless(bar the females) drawing huge attention to themselves with music playing full blast.cheesy.gifclap2.gif
