Hello all, does anyone know what the import duty is for bringing beer into Thailand? There is a "stout" black beer brewed in Cambodia called Black Panther which sells for 100 baht for 6 x 330 ml cans (price last time I bought it) at border markets. You can bring in 4 x 330 ml cans at the border crossing that I use (Ban Kruat) duty free, but I was wondering how much it would cost to pay duty on a larger volume of say 10-20 cases. Anybody had any personal experiences of doing this....

Not so simple. To import more than 1 litre of booze into Thailand you need an alcohol license from The Excise Department (Ministry of Finance). Chances of a private individual getting one are pretty much zero.

Apparently around 73%:

In practice there will probably be some scam involved and it will cost you more.

Wow, if the duty and sales tax rates on that chart are reasonably accurate and current, it looks like Thailand has the highest taxes on imported bottled beer of any country in SE Asia and even all Asia for that matter.

Compare with Hong Kong and Macau at 0% total. Even Laos is only 40+10%, according to the chart. And Vietnam 35+10% and the Phils 15+12%. The other countries have local beer industries at well, but they don't tax the h**l out of imports the way Thailand does, according to that chart.

That's probably true. Thailand seems very expensive to me for imported alcohol and cigars (and other imported items like food). If I was an alcoholic I dont think I would be living here.

Ban kruat has bordergate to cambodia? An actual immigration and road like in surin?

It's not an official crossing....they allow you to cross into Cambodia to visit the market over the border. When I was last there, someone in the party had to leave their Thai driving license on the Thai side and you got it back when you come back. Passports were not required to visit the market. That was a while ago and now it's not quite as simple.
