dddave Posted April 18, 2016 Share Posted April 18, 2016 I've been successfully growing potted herbs on my 9th floor Bangkok balcony: sweet & Thai basil, mint, pak chii, and red chili peppers. I would like to grow Rosemary; my favorite herb. (Sage as well but I have never seen it here) I have seen 1' to 2' developed rosemary plants at Chatuchak. Any opinion as to how they would do on a balcony? What kind of light does rosemary need? Water frequently, as with basil or sparingly, like my chili peppers? rice555 Posted April 18, 2016 Share Posted April 18, 2016 Hello All, I picked this plant up a few weeks back and will be TP into a larger pot, 5-10L, not sure yet as it will be moved to the farm in 6Mos. I got it at the New Marko across from DoHome here in Korat. They had several other western herbs for sale also, I think it was around Bt.100. That's my mouse to the side of the pot. NormanW Posted February 26, 2017 Share Posted February 26, 2017 I'm going to try again as yesterday I bought 4 pots of rosemary from Big C. 300 baht. I've already unsuccessfully tried it on the balcony and have come to the conclusion that it's simply too hot. (Pattaya). I'm now keeping the air conditioning on 2/47 at 25 °C and have placed the pots next to the balcony doors in an attempt allow sunshine for the plants in the morning. Over watering is a common problem and I'll keep it to twice a week using dirty water from the fishtank. I'll take a photo when I get back to the condo. Best of luck. cooked Posted March 3, 2017 Share Posted March 3, 2017 The main reason I had difficulties with Rosemary was, I think, waterlogged soil associated with too little water in summer! I now have a nice plant, brought back from Switzerland last year, in a largish pot. it is in half shadow and gets water most days. Some kind of in sect would invariably attack it if I let it dry out. As a back up, once the plant was growing I took cuttings. However I must say that although the taste is 'ok', the plant doesn't grow the same as it did back home. Haven't a clue as I bought them in the old Big C north Pattaya which is now called Central something. I can't remember. There was a smashing plant fair there last weekend. I was actually surprised how the whole place looked compared to the scruffy dump it has been for the last 23 years. At the end of the day they are all much of a muchness aren't they.
