Englishman 'arrests' ladyboy pickpocket in Pattaya

en.jpg

PATTAYA:-- An English tourist chased and arrested a ladyboy who picked his pocket and held on before Pattaya police arrived last night. The alert tourist foiled a 150,000 baht snatch.

The 35 year old man was out shopping with his Thai girlfriend and when he attempted to get off a baht bus he noticed a large sum of money was missing.

A fellow passenger attempted to flee but he chased the thief before he could get away on a motorbike then held onto him before police arrived.

The drama happened as Imran Muhammad Akhtar (transliteration), 35, and his Thai girlfriend reached their destination at the Thep Pradit market in South Pattaya on Sunday evening.

Imran rang the bell and as he got up he happened to glance down and saw English money on the floor of the song thaew. Checking his trousers he realised it was part of his £3,000 he had in his pocket.

A quick search of the bus revealed the remained under the leg of passenger Pongpipat Maneerat, 28, a ladyboy.

Realising the game was up the ladybody jumped out of the bus. Imran made chase and before the thief could escape on an accomplice’s motorbike managed to arrest him. The friend fled on the bike.

Imran phoned police who came to formally arrest the thief who admitted that he had picked the pocket of the Englishman as they were on the bus. He was taken away saying that he did it to pay a debt for household items.

Imran Muhammad Akhtar "an English man", ( well, he is ok? ) walks around with 3,000 pounds

in his Pattaya trousers on a baht bus.... clearly, doesn't know much about Pattaya's perils

and dangers lurking everywhere......

I see the same people who rant about Thais being racist are denying this man is English because of his race and name.

Shunter's offering stands out as a particularly striking example of a bigoted diatribe.

Place of birth is irrelevant, but place of registration of birth is!

Hundreds of 'English' children were born in Germany to forces families stationed there.

There is also that little thing known as 'dual nationality', you know, like Boris Johnson, and Pierce Brosnan, who portrayed the quintessential Englishman James Bond despite being Irish and holding US citizenship.

Presumably he was born in England, so he's an Englishman.

A pretty foolish one to be carrying that amount of cash around, though.

Not sure about England, but I know that in Ireland

Being born in Ireland does not make you Irish

If none of the parents are Irish.

The law was changed a few years ago to stop passport abuse.

Why is the name a transliteration...are't UK passports in English anymore...or have they switched over to Arabic? And what's ladyboyish about this fella or are all thieves presumed to to ladyboys now, rather than a straight or gay man?

Sorry your article should have read English resident, not English man.

Never in a million years is he an English man.

yes agree.... He may be a British subject or citizen but not an Englishman. This confusion is going to really be hard for Thais to digest... now that there will be soon syrian looking arabs with German passports or Swedish passports.... does not make them a German or a Swede.... they are just citizens naturalised into the system from a refugee status.

Another point. The title is really misleading.

First An Englishman or any nationality cannot arrest anybody in Thailand. English man tackles pickpocket and pegs him down till Police arrive... would be a colloquial equivalent of what is intended, I suppose...not an expert on edit...but I was really intrigued to find out how an Englishman could arrest a lady boy.

For the purpose of police reporting (and thus news) the passport is what counts and not ethnicity - if he carried a UK passport then reports would show British or English depending on what he himself stated.

Ethnicity is not nationality.
