36 new foreign investors allowed to open business in Thailand

BANGKOK, 26 April 2016 (NNT) – Business Development Department Director General Phongphan Jiarawanon said the agency has allowed 36 new foreign investors, mostly from Japan, Singapore and China, to open business in Thailand.

Those foreign investments will combinedly incur a registered 898 million baht capital and lead to the employment of 698 Thai workers.

In April 2016, four new businesses have been granted permission, representing a 13 percent increase from a previous month while the investment capital has increased by 61 million baht, representing a seven percent rise from the same period last year.

If you want to lie, get your math right. It's insulting.

"In April 2016, four new businesses have been granted permission, representing a 13 percent increase from a previous month".

So 3.54 new businesses have been granted permission in March 2016.

You'll notice, these regular news releases on foreign businesses never actually mention the names of any of the businesses, never mention what kind of businesses are being established or even the numbers of people being employed per business.

Thus, makes it impossible to know what becomes of them, how long they last or don't last in Thailand, etc etc etc.

Probably, the Thai government prefers it that way, for public consumption.

The Chinese I can understand. The Japanese, you'd think by now would know better.

Would like to know the time frame and the various parameters (eg, BOI supported) - seems a very small number to me.

Would also like to know the number of foreign businesses that have closed down in recent times and the number that have relocated to Vietnam. I think there's more relevance to how Thailand is progressing.

They are either very brave or terribly naive

If International then they will offset their taxes against the losses in Thailand

I'd say 36 large companies opened for business, these wouldn't include the usual failures that contribute to the economy in other ways like bars and restaurants, not all of these fail but 97% fail in the first 2 years , not much different to opening a small business in Australia...................................coffee1.gif

.....bottom line....they love to 'God over' everyone.........

...so they can say and do as they please......

....welcome....???

FYI, there are currently 2000+ Japanese businesses in Thailand, of which the majority does very well.

Very few on TV want to read that, or indeed any other positive news or successes.

It would completely distort their view of Thailand and render them speechless, "does not compute, cannot comprehend".

So only one of the other nine ASEAN countries (Singapore)?

So much for benefits of the ASEAN Community.

The Japanese have been here far longer than you or I, and their industrial/back-hander system mirrors the Thai system pretty well, so they probably have a far better handle on how to handle the nuances than you or I. The Chinese are still playing catch-up in this regard.

Yes. Wonderful.

78% drop in foreign investment last year, 81% drop from Japan in particular (Prayuth is worried). It seems the Chinese investment (although slightly down) exceeded the Japanese investment last year, according to some other articles. Easy to do, the numbers were very small.

They can't fool the Japanese anymore and they are trying their luck with the Chinese. What's good about them is that their investment was only slightly down.

What does this mean? Are these foreign businesses allowed to set up with no Thai majority share holding? Is the quota number for Thais to foreigner workers changed (currently 4 Thais to 1 foreigner)? What about property ownership?

Stooges, probably. No investor in his right mind would take a long term view on Thailand right now. The government is too unpredictable and commercially incompetent.

I see the TV international business experts are out in force, if only these companies would come on to TV and listen to the advice of these business experts... whistling.gif

I agree so many experts on TV that I bet a small percentage if any have ever owned a company in Thailand but they know all about the problems.

I have worked in the industrial market in Thailand for almost 20 years and there are some very good workers at these factories.

I have several friends that own companies in Thailand and do very well, no bars or restaurants. We sold our factory a few years ago not

that we were having problems but because we got a great offer.

Yes not to much "acting the fool" in well run intentional companies operating in Thailand, and plenty of Thais who want to work for them, very good pay and conditions!

Anyone who want to know whats going on take a drive from laem chabang to rayong and see how much development is going on and how many new industrial parks and factories are being built or newly operating, it makes no sense from the out side but you will see, it is staggering.
