PHUKET: -- A group of Australian expats in Phuket will hold a fundraiser next Friday (May 6) to buy a mobility scooter for a young disabled Thai man who sells various wares on Bangla Rd.

The event will be held at the Kangaroo Bar, a favourite hangout for a large number of Aussie expats in Patong.

The man, “Mr Pom”, will be presented with a brand-new Quantum Power Chair at a presentation night also at the Kangaroo Bar the following Friday (May 13).

Mr Pom was born with severe physical disabilities, including no arms, no right leg and his left leg is not very functional. He currently uses an old skateboard to get around.

He is friends with Wan and Aen, both previous recipients of electric mobility scooters kindly provided by Pride Mobility Australia.

Not often you see kindness from the convicts towards a pom.

I'm sure that must have influenced their decision.
