Key Yakuza financier arrested in Bangkok



BANGKOK: -- A Japanese man who was alleged to be a key financier of the Yamagushi Yakuza gang in Japan was arrested by Thai and Japanese police near his condominium in Din Daeng area early Sunday morning.

Pol Lt-Gen Natthathorn Prohsunthorn, commissioner of Immigration Bureau, said that the detainee, Mr Suhey-I Yoshisawa, 34, was wanted by Japanese police on electronic fraud charges and a warrant for his arrest has been issued by the court in Kobe.

The suspect was shown to the media at a press conference held this morning.

He said that Yoshisawa was identified as one of the key financiers for the Yamagushi Yakuza gang. As chairman of Miyami company, an investment consulting firm which has several branch offices in Japan, Yoshisawa has amassed about 180 million baht from about 500 victims through extortion, intimidation and fraud all of whom have wired money into his bank accounts, he added.

In March last year, Japanese police raided Yoshisawa’s head office in Osaka and arrested 25 staff members but the man dodged the police dragnet and reportedly escaped to Thailand on March 30.

The immigration chief disclosed that the detainee was a frequent visitor to Thailand having made 45 visits, had a Thai wife and was given a one-year visa.

With the request from Japanese police, Thai immigration police finally tracked down the Japanese who has a condominium room in Soi Prachasongkroh, Din Daeng area. He was also known to be a frequent patron at RCA entertainment complex.

Early Sunday morning, police tailed Yoshisawa’s car from Rama IX road to Soi Prachasongkroh, but the Japanese became suspicious that he was being followed and tried to run away after stopping his car at the soi. The undercover police then gave chase and finally nabbed him.

Had there not been Japanese police involved in the capture it is very likely that the suspect would have managed to mysteriously escaped police custody in all the confusion.

A frequent patron at RCA. I am not surprised.

as we know, these professions are restricted to Thai organisations within the Kingdom and a foreigner cannot get a work permit or join the RTP

At least nobody gets sued over putting his photo here on display.

I guess that he forgot to pay off the local BIB this month OR the Thai military told the BIB to arrest him even though he paid,so as the Thai government can have good relations with Japan.

This time the suspect was Japanese mafia amd Thai police chased him for arrest. If it were Thai mafia, they will just take money and do nothing.
