CHUMPHON:-- Villagers saw an unusual sight washed up on a southern Thai beach Monday - a giant sea turtle reckoned to be about 80 years old.

Fisheries department official called to the Bang Man beach in Chumphon said that the 100 cm x 90 cm animal may have died from eating plastic waste or a poisonous substance, reports Thairath.

There were no signs on the 80 kilogram turtle that it had got tangled in nets or been hurt by collision with a fishing boat.

Ratri Chanrat from the fisheries department said the female turtle had been dead several hours and would be taken to a research institute in Chumporn to be cut open in an effort to find out why it has died. She said the turtle was at least 80 years old.

If you look closely you will see that it died with a smile on its face........meanwhile, out at sea is a male turtle with a really big smile.......

This sad. I have no sympathy for folk who kill themselves when pi$$ed in cars or on bikes when not even wearing a crash hat. Their own fault but an old turtle that has been roaming the seas . yup sad.

Probably plastic as the main food for these turtles is jellyfish and plastic bags under water

look very similar.

Very sad !!!

Let's hope it just died of old age.
