Non-imm O Retirement Visa Question

Featured Replies

I came in on a multi entry non imm O visa, which states 'employment prohibited'. I have since married a Thai national and am being offered employment by a local school. Can anyone tell me if I can get the type of visa changed to a non imm B type without leaving the country. Might the school be able to help? Any info gratefully received.

You can work aslong as you get a Work Permit, nomatter your VISA-type being non-O instead of non-B.

(With reservation for something odd changing the last month *sigh*)

(I'm currently on non-O and are going to hunt down job, but have no wish in changing VISA from non-O to non-B especially if the point of hunting the job is to get 40K/m for extension to the non-O...)

Well, not really. There are several different types of non-o. If yours says 'employment prohibited' I'd guess you applied for a retiremnt version. With what your visa says, you can't legally work/ get a WP.

You shouldn't have any problems getting the visa changed to something that will let you get a WP and work legally. Either a non-o that does allow employment or a b.

Someone will be along shortly to give specific details.

I'd suggest you have the school call immigration and have them tell you exactly what you can do to get legal.

Yes, if he has a retirement-VISA he might not be able to get a WP, but the VISA itself stating that working is prohibited is common, since working is prohibited without a WP.

(My non-O (marrige) from back home is stamped 'Employment Prohibited', while the the ones from Penang isn't stamped with this. But it should be the same rules nomatter what, same VISA.)

Cheers all but my enqiry was -- what are the new regs, if any, re.retirement OA visa. Luckly I don't have to work now. Maybe I will die from boredom. Thanks

Thanks for that, guys. If I can get the visa changed to allow employment ... where would I go to do so? Any ideas? Ministry of foreign affairs, maybe?

Alter it from retirement-visa (non-OA) to supporting family-visa (non-O)? Reapply/new application from abroad I guess...
