CM to Angkor Wat ?

Featured Replies

Has anyone driven driven CM to Angkor Wat?

Looks like the last part has poor but passable roads after the border.....

At first I thought the train ride looked to be fun but it basically stops at the border, then you're on your own....Leaving the choice open to drive instead & the relative safety and privacy of our car.....

Has anyone done this recently - - or is flying just that much better as an option.....

Thinking about a family jaunt...Me - wife & 2 daughters...15 & 8.....

LivinLos has done it many times and so long as you have the vehicle docs (carnet) and owner is travelling with the vehicle the only drawback is 'no insurance cover' whilst in Cambodia. PM LiL or maybe he will see this thread and give you the full story.

I have considered driving as far as the border and taking a taxi to Siem Reap, not expensive and possibly safer in the long run.

The roads on the Cambodian side are perfectly drive-able - I've done that trip more than 50 times now. But it is only $25 in a taxi too...

I'll be fair though from Chiang Mai flying is a much better option. Why give up a day of your life on dangerous roads when you could be there in 1/4 of the time and be having fun doing something safer; like skydiving or Russian roulette?
