AIS confirmed to join 4G auction this month

BANGKOK, 12 May 2016 (NNT) – Advanced Info Service (AIS) is the first mobile carrier confirmed to join the auction of the 4G mobile network on 900 MHz frequency later this month, while the auction will continue to take place even if there is only one bidder, says NBTC.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) Secretary-General Takorn Tantasith has revealed the progress of the auction for operator licenses of 4G mobile network on 900 MHz frequency at a seminar held by the Information and Technology Journalist Club of the Thai Journalist Association.

He has said there are only two operators, namely AIS and True who have shown interests to receive the auction document, while other operators can still receive the document by 18 May prior to the actual auction on 27 May.

AIS is now the only operator conformed with the NBTC to participate in this auction, while the NBTC is waiting for True’s confirmation which is likely to be positive.

The auction will take place at the NBTC’s headquarters in Bangkok in two separate rooms with the duration expected to be about 1 hour. The starting price for the auction is at 75 billion baht.

The NBTC secretary-general has added it is possible for the auction to take place with only one bidder as only one bid will be required to make that bidder a winner.
