PHUKET: -- The standing committee presiding over a land ownership dispute of 24 rai on Naka Noi Island, just off Phuket's east coast, has voted to revoke the land ownership of Six Mountains Co Ltd.

Further actions are expected to be carried out by the Land Department, Phuket Land Office Chief Watcharin Jetanavanich confirmed yesterday.

“The committee’s decision is only an initial suggestion,” Mr Watcharin cautioned. “The final decision is for the Land Department Director-General,” said Mr Watcharin.

The land ownership dispute was brought into the public eye in December of last year, when the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) received a complaint by Thai actor Puri Hiranpruk. Mr Puri alleged that land documents had mistakenly transferred ownership of rai from Naka Noi Island to Naka Yai Island.

So " mistakenly transferred ownership of rai from Naka Noi Island to Naka Yai Island." I can see why people might be upset. If Naka Yai Island get a bulldozer and and bugger off with 24Rai of the real estate - poor old Naka Noi will become "Naka Nid Noi Island"...lol

Thailand must have one of the sloppiest systems of recording land ownership and surveying land around. One frequently reads of encroachment, etc. Records of who owns what seem to be able to be falsified with ease.

I have read on numerous occasions the government land office is the most corrupt dept in the government.
