Need thai lawyer for divorce through the court

Featured Replies

Hi there!

Do anybody know local thai lawyer, who can help with registration divorce through the court for adequate money? We are both foreigners, my husband and I registered our marriage in Bangkok in Jan15. After it he returned his native country and I stay in Thailand alone. So I want to register divorce now. We don't have kids and joint property, so we don't need to separate anything and I need only paper about divorce for future.

When I open google most results there, are international lawyers in Bangkok with crazy prices from 45000 till 180000 THB for this procedure. Too much crazy prices for only paper and nothing else in my situation. I think that local lawyers can ask cheaper prices for this service. Can anybody advice some of them? Thanks

contact a few and see what they will actually charge for you situation. finding out should not cost anything

Bit unclear!

Do you mean you have a Thai Marriage Certificate and a Registration of Marriage from the Amphur?

Did you register the Marriage in another Country?

You may find you both have to be present to get a divorce

Try Sebastien Brousseau at Isaan Lawyers. I have no brief to suggest him, never used; but they appear competent up-country lawyers.

Married for just four months, rather sad

Are you a math teacher?

A divorce by mutual consent in Thailand is fairly easy to obtain; any other type of divorce can be more complicated.

Note: Divorce by mutual consent only applies if the couple married in Thailand. If they married outside Thailand they may apply for divorce in Thailand but have to go through the court system.

Divorce by Mutual Consent

An uncontested divorce can be obtained at the local District Office (khet/amphur). A divorce by mutual consent must be made in writing and certified with the signature of at least two witnesses and it must be registered with the relevant authorities.

The divorce documents and a summary on completing the form are available from the local District Office. All documents are in Thai.

There is no requirement to be accompanied by lawyer or have lawyer prepare the divorce documents. But having a lawyer may help explain things better.

If you can't even find out where your partner stays right now, it shouldn't be that difficult. Find the right Thai who's helping you and tell them what's going on.

What's your nationality?

Good luck with that.

P.S. I know a great lawyer who's in isaan, 600 km away from Bangkok. he's an honest guy and not a rip off lawyer.

Page me and give me more information, if you don't want to discuss that on an open forum.

Only 300 baht if you both turn up at amphur...

I know it, but can't go to amphur by myself without husband. I live in Thailand, he lives in other country, when I wrote him that want to register divorce he answered that doesn't agree with it, so he willn't come specialy for it in Thailand and I force to do it by myself through the court.

I contacted 4 companies, which found through internet. Prices were 45000, 100000, 120000 and 175000 plus tax. So I try to find local lawyer, not international company, who has good search query through google.

Yes, I have both papers from Ladprao Amphur.

How can I find contacts of Sebastien Brousseau?

To start with you should seek advice from the Amphur where you registered the marriage. If they are of no assistance then you should contact your Embassy who will provide you with a list of lawyers. It is unlikely the Embassy will recommend any one lawyer but you can be sure the Embassy has had good reports/experiences with the lawyers on the list provided.

Google 'Isaan Lawyers', click on 'Our team', and his details come up.

Thank you for your advice, but if he stays in Isaan I need to pay also for his transportation to/from Bagkok. So I try to find some lawyer from Bangkok at first.

Someone with the name "Sebastien Brousseau" is very unlikely to be registered to practice law in Thailand. Take care !

Married for just four months, rather sad

Married for 1 year 4 months (I wrote about Jan 2015 and now 2016 year). If I could be married just 4 months I can't go to the court by myself. I can do it only if I stay more than one year alone and don't know where my spouse are.

  • Author

Yes, I see that they try charge "farang" price from me, so I ask an advice which lawyer can charge normal price, not overpricing his service.
