Govt expedites work to ensure sufficient water until late July

BANGKOK, 17 May 2016 (NNT) - The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation cooperates with relevant units to ensure sufficient water until 30 July. The public are urged to use water economically.

Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Chatchai Phromlert said the government and the National Council for Peace and Order had instructed the department to cooperate with all relevant sectors to urgently tackle drought. The department was checking how much water each village had in order to assess the drought situation, said the director-general.

Water is distributed to drought-affected people in areas with a shortage of water. Provinces at risk of a water shortage have been instructed to promote their measures to tackle a possible shortage of raw water for the production of tap water.

Farmers are advised to keep abreast of the weather in order to plan their cultivation in line with weather conditions and water levels.

Shifting the focus back to the end of July now after confidently predicting on no evidence other than wishful thinking, that the rains would begin in mid May.

Not going to help the 31 provinces have been declared urgent assistant zones: 11 face a shortage in water for consumption, 8 face the lack of water for agriculture, and 12 provinces face the lack of water for both consumption and agriculture.

Keeping abreast of the weather won't help those provinces.
