Thailand organizes ACM-ICPC World Finals 2016

PHUKET, 19 May 2016 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong on Wednesday presided over the opening ceremony the 40th ACM-ICPC World Finals 2016 which is held for the first time in ASEAN by Prince of Songkla University.

Held from 15 – 20 May 2016 at Saphan Hin Sports Center in Phuket, 128 teams of university students from 40 countries worldwide—two of them from Thailand—participate in the competition. The two teams are from Prince of Songkla University and Chulalongkorn University.

The deputy PM said during the opening ceremony that the government promoted and supported ICT research and development with the objective to enhance Thailand’s potential in the ICT industry. Playing host to a world-class event like the ACM-ICPC World Finals 2016 would help promote the ICT industry in Thailand and inspire young Thai computer programmers, academics and innovators, said the deputy premier.

The deputy PM added that the competition was a good opportunity for Thailand to show its potential and readiness to develop ICT.

Those who like me did not know what it is. From Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACM_International_Collegiate_Programming_Contest

"ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (abbreviated as ACM-ICPC or just ICPC) is an annual multi-tiered competitive programming competition among the universities of the world. The contest is sponsored by IBM. Headquartered at Baylor University, with autonomous regions on six continents, the ICPC is directed by Baylor Professor William B. Poucher, Executive Director, and operates under the auspices of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)."
