I have a GTX980ti at the moment. I play games in 4K@60Hz but I could use a few more FPS to get the games run smother. So my options are:

  • Keep it and buy another for 27000 baht (or 2'nd hand if I can find one) AND a larger PSU for 7000 and run it all in SLI
  • Sell the GTX980ti and buy me the new GET1080.

What would you do?

I would definitely avoid SLI. Despite some progress, it's still quite hit or miss. I would definitely go for a 1080 if you feel you need some more horsepower, but to get the most money for your 980ti you should sell it as soon as possible, as it will likely decrease quite a bit in value once the new line-up is released. You would of course have to do without high-end gaming for a while :)

It does not sounds too promising for AMD though.

Nvidia kicked off the new generation with a bang with the powerhouse $600 GTX 1080, but AMD’s behavior indicates it’ll target a more mainstream

audience with its first Polaris-based graphics cards. In other words, the Polaris debut might take aim at more affordable price points rather than take on Nvidia’s beast head-to-head.

1080 is a good replacment for the 980

Typical aftermarket 980tis run alot faster then the original reference 980ti so not really much of an upgrade, you still get around 20%, not enough to justify going to the hassle and spending lots of money chasing those kinds of gains but thats subjective

If i was in your position id hold off and overclock your card if you havn

t all ready dobe so, they overclock really well

Ive also heard 1080s are going for $1100-1200au, thats highway robbery for a cut down video card

The card is overclocked already and hitting 1500+ Mhz at boost and scoring 21800 points in graphics scores in FireStriker. A 1080 vanilla gets you a 21500 points, if well overclocked (2200mhz) it gets up to 26000p. If I can't sell it, I will buy another one for SLI. It will score arount 38000-40000 points in FireStrike.

You may want to wait for aftermarket cards to come out, some reviewers are finding 1800mhz boost is the best they can get out of the 1080 founders eddition as it has power delivery and thermal problems after a few minutes at higher clocks

At that speed you wont notice a difference between it and a 1500mhz 980ti as the ti has more cores and 50% wider vram bus so clock for clock is faster

Fallout 4 and Witcher 3. My old 30" monitor broke down at 7pm 8 month ago and I was in urge to get a new one, even if temporary, so I headed to a consumer electronic shop and bought me a 4K 40" TV that was on sale for 26000 baht. It ended up working surprisingly good so I have kept it as monitor ever since. It had both a HDMI 2.0 and a PC and Game mode with much lower response time. And once one have played in 4K, one will never look back again :-D

Amen to that. Not only for games, but the whole desktop experience changes once you have a 4K display.

Are you running any mods on Fallout 4? I am running a bunch. I get them at Nexusmods.com/fallout4

I ended up selling my GTX 980 Ti and bought two GTX 1070 to run as SLI. I got 15,000 for my 980 Ti and paid 17,900 for each 1070. Went from 21,800 graphic points in Firestrike to 38,000 graphic points, all overclocked.
