Story by Albert Jack

PATTAYA: -- At 2am on the morning of May 23 a ten-officer unit from Pattaya Police Station carried out a raid on the infamous 808 Club in Pattaya’s Walking Street after being informed of an illegal drugs party in progress.

Inside the club over five-hundred customers were enjoying a few drinks and dancing when the music was pulled, the lights turned on and each was asked to provide ID cards and submit urine samples for drug testing.

And the tourists are still being attacked by the authorities.

Almost persecution.

Imagine if there was a "police swoop" on all the tourists at Buckingham Palace, for example. They'd be an uproar. Yet continual targeting of tourists in Pattaya. And the "Top Brass" have said "Stop attacking Tourists".

Claim they had a "tip-off". cheesy.gif

Sneaky "legal" way of extracting Baht from tourists.

10 Police Officers taken off Beach Rd where LadyBoys, Prostitutes and Drug Dealers target tourists.

Yet these 10 Police Officers are targeting tourists themselves.

For what ? For extracting money from tourists, whether it be on Beach Rd or random Night Clubs.

Somehow, I doubt the activities at Buckingham Palace would be in the same league...

Actually I seem to remember traces of cocaine were discovered at Buckingham Palace, so maybe a full-on, Thai-style raid would get more results than this one did!

Where does it say they were targeting tourists? Are you suggesting that only tourists were tested, and if so where did you get that information from? From what I read they were checking on all customers, not only foreigners.

Ahem! Buckingham Palace = Walking Street Club.bit of a stretch there Pattaya 28. The Thai Police don't test the visitors to the Grand Palace for drugs, and the British police probably do test any tourists who find their way into nightclubs in the red light districts of major British cities should they need to raid them

500 urine samples .... wow, that is really taking the piss, on a grand scale.

Nope. 500 people, 1 big (really big) bucket, and they dipped last week's test strip into it.

Budget cutbacks, don't you know...

The party goers should have told the police that they all want to go down the police station and perform the test in a controlled environment. Then sit back and wait for transport for 500.

That could backfire and fall under the "be careful what you ask for" caveat when they're still waiting, tired, hungry and thirsty, 3 days later.

Hard to believe 500 customers "tested" and 500 were "drug free". Infact impossible to believe. No chance.

Yes, reports on other Forums suggest that it was nothing like that. Just another misleading headline and sensationalist reporting.

Elaborate....

As I wrote, posts on a Pattaya related Forum suggest the reporting was exaggerated.

The Thai police test tourists at other tourist locations in Bangkok. Sukhumvit market area - broad daylight. So waiting outside the Grand Palace and randomly testing people is a possibility . As long as drugs are illegal, in any country, including the UK, Europe and the USA lazy bent cops will have an excuse to harass people, exhtort money and punish poor people and free thinkers. Then put them into prison, far more damaging than drugs and make a profit out of them.
