If the owner is a foreigner (which I presume) he / she needs to provide a certificate of residence, as you do (from immigration) at the LTO.

Where is the bike registered?

Do you have signed transfer forms from owner?

Do you have signed green book from owner?

Do you have copy ID card signed by the owner? or if Farang passport copies signed and residence certificate

I have sold many bikes in Thailand ,mostly up here in Chiang mai .What you need ,and i just done it again last week is the following .

FROM THE SELLER ; .Signed power of Attorney Form ,Signed transfer form,Copy of sellers passport (front page and latest visa page both signed by him .) .Green book ,with his name registered on it as the last owner .

YOU NEED ; Residence cert (work permit or Yellow house book will also do ) ,copy of your passport including latest visa page .

Thanks for all replies

Ok As I said owner not in the country he's in AUS and not coming back.

Bike is registered in Pattaya

I have the green book

Have copies of his passport front page only because he's not living here or visiting.

Bill of sale for the bike from when he first bought it.

Power of at Attorney form

Green book

Ok my 1 question can I put his AUS address because he does not have Thai address?

And would it be easier to transfer into my Thai wife's name.

Thanks all again in advance.

They might require that you have a copy of the sellers valid visa also. Chiang Mai used to and I had to use a fixer to do the transfer even though I had all the other proper docs. Seller left Thailand on the day his visa expired.

The question about a foreigner selling a bike while not in the country came up a few weeks ago...if I remember correctly you'll need a copy of the exit from Thailand stamp in his passport (signed by him ) to get round the need for "certificate of residence"

Again i am taking of my experience in Chiang mai .What you say above sounds correct .Up here though i bough a bike recently with papers from a farang who had left and whose visa had expired .The lady at the Transport office was still able to process it ,by filling up extra documents .

I have purchased a bike from a Malaysian guy residing in Bangkok, Im in Chiang Mai.

I have provided all documents from him and myself, except his visa copy. He has provided a current work permit

which as I understand cannot be issued without a non immigrant visa.

Why then do I need to chase him for a visa copy, this is so typical of Thai red tape gone mad.

I should be able to provide his current work permit as proof that he also holds a visa?

Always something to block a simple procedure here.
