BANGKOK: -- A fire broke out late this morning at Tawan Daeng Sardsaengduen entertainment complex on Suksawat road in Ratburana district and was quickly raging to adjacent movie theatre and shopping plaza.

Ratburana police said the fire happened at about 10.00 am on the second floor of the entertainment complex where many people were working inside.

The complex was located near Major Hollywood movie theatre and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.

As the fire raged hundreds of people were seen running out of their offices inside the complex and shopping plaza.

A dozen of fire engines arrived and firefighters broke into the complex in search of people who might be trapped inside as thick smoke still billowing from the raged building.

Four people were rescued from the building and immediately rushed to Bang Pakok hospital for treatment of suffocation.

One was reported died at hospital for suffocation.

The fire was kept under control before noon.

The cause of fire was under investigation.

Thanks God, it is not happened on a Friday evening with plenty of party goers. whistling.gifblink.png I hope the Tawandaeng at Rama-3 also checks the safety. And authorities to make sure there are enough exits around. sad.png

The one in Rama 3 is quite open with lots of exits but the one at Patanakarn I would be less sure about with one tight entrance at the front.

Those sprinklers you see for fires.......There not charged. The FD needs to hook them up and then turn them on.

There are just two "rong bia yoerman tawang daeng" that have nothing to do do with that place that is referred here to. Tawang daeng just means red sun or dawn in Thai and therefore must not necessarily be associated with that German brewery establishments. wai2.gif

When everything you do is reactive rather than proactive, look forward to some new fire safety legislation soon, or at the very least promises to make committees to investigate fire legislation. Drop all work on double decker buses, drunk drivers etc. Fire is the new death. concentrate on fire until something else comes along

Totally understandable and justified cynicism from this poster and many others who continue to read, day after day of yet another accident, collapse, fire etc, all due to slack, or lack of, enforcement and regulation across the board.

When will somebody step up and say "The Baht stops here" and "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore"..

Well, Prime Minister?

There are actually two Tawandaeng's at Pattanakarn, right opposite each other, and the issan one definitely has an additional exit at the back (left side if not faced the stage) and I seem to remember the other one has one too, but it has been years since I last went there.

Don't tell me. Another faulty neon light?

Must be, since everything else was up to fire code regulations.

"Fire code regulations" in Thailand. Oh, Sorry, I was thinking of another universe.

This is the the second major shopping entertainment complex to have this happen in Bangkok. Instead of wasting so much time over writing stupid rules for a constitution. Would it not be better to create laws of proper fire regulations for all public buildings and public safety? What matters most? Peoples lives or the constitution!!!

There are 3 Tawandang Brewery in Bangkok, and are totally unrelated to this Tawan Daeng.

I was surprised to not be able to find the earlier First Hotel fire, that happened in 1971 or 1972. Fewer people died, but I remember it because the full Colonel in command of the USARSUPTHAI Bangkok Detachment was awarded a Soldier's Medal for going around knocking on doors to warn people and get them out. He later escaped prosecution (court martial) for trying to move a suspicious really, really large sum of cash from Thailand to the U.S. when his tour ended. Come to think of it, it must have been 1971 because that's when I was still stationed in Bangkok. I was reassigned to Sattahip in November.

Doubt all you like but you'd be speculating, and you'd be wrong.

Actually, โรงเหล้า has the exit at the front, one near the cashiers on the side, and the smoking area on the opposite side with a chained door that could (I think easily) be broken open in the event of an emergency. อิสาณ has the front door, and the side exit into the alley. I believe both also have an exit from the kitchen, but not sure. I have never seen pyrotechnics in any of their shows, but there are plenty of sternos burning for ปลานึ่ง and ต้มยำ, and of course, the kitchen stoves.

Fortunately, there is enough beer flowing, I bet you could put out any fire in an instant rolleyes.gif
